Advice ,, Should i tackle my I/g liner replacement myself

I have a 16x32 in ground rectangle pool in need of a new liner. I have gotten quotes on installations locally and there almost 4000. I've estimated that i can save about half by doing it myself, and it would be great to know i tackled it on my own. I am an auto mechanic and generally handy with home repairs, mechanical stuff and fixing things so i feel that may help a bit. I Want some honest opinions if its worth it or really that hard besides being labor intensive. I can drum up a few Saturday volunteers to assist in the installation.
I have watched several videos on it and understand the basics of using a vacuum to seat the liner and so on.
Since the pools 30 yrs old already i can deal with an average to above average install quality if it means saving that much.
Its a rectangle with 2 45 degree angle corners instead of a 90 degree and i have no stairs to deal with. It does have a main drain and 2 returns with a skimmer.
I am more concerned with the vermiculite base under the liner as far as how much touching up is needed on that and how forgiving it is if there are small cracks and pits in it and so on before i install the new liner.
I am tempted to remove the old liner now and start to really check and or fix the vermiculite base however i am concerned it may allow the rain or other natural elements hurt or wear the vermiculite before i can install the new liner a few weeks later.
