I have a pool that is approximately 12X18 feet. AG. I have the Astral 150 Cratridge Filter. I recently bought a new pump, a 1.5 HP. Is it possible to have too much power? Should I have bought a lower HP pump?

Johnny,
I would check the specs for your filter to see what the recommended flow is (GPM) and check that the pump does not exceed that. A 1 1/2 HP motor seems a bit strong, unless it is two-speed, since I have double the size pool with a long run to the equipment and also use a 1 1/2 HP motor.
I have the Astral 150, which is 150 GPM. The pump is a Hayward 1.5HP matrix power flo pump. Its only 1 speed unfortunately.
Is it possible that the reason I have white cloudy water is due to the larger pump????
If a pump puts out more GPM than the filter is rated for, it can cause the filter to let junk get by, or even damage the filter. Filters should ALWAYS be able to handle more than the pump can put out.
Double check that GPM rating for your filter.......that is a H-U-U-U-GE filter.....typically for a 50,000 gallon pool
My bad, I'm apologize for the confusion. The astral 150, is 150 Square feet. I do see it sold along other 1 1/2 HP pumps, and my prior pump although it didn't work well, was a 1 1/2 HP
