Do I need to open a vinyl pool

Hi and thank you in advance for your response.

My wife and I purchased a home last year with an inground vinyl pool. The pool has a new liner (installed right before we purchased the home). The pool opened fine, ran all last summer and was professionally closed.

We want to know what the implications were if we did not open the pool this summer? We didn't get use of the pool last summer as it is mostly in the shade and installing a heater isn't in the plan for this summer.
