Anthony Pool - Want to Replace Skimmer and Beak out the Main Drain from the Skimmer

Hello, I have an old Anthony Pools In-Ground Pool with a an old style concrete skimmer 7"x7" with the main drain connected to the skimmer. I want to separate the main drain from the skimmer and add a separate pipe for a suction port.

I included links to pictures of the skimmer and the main drain pipe, the pipe is copper and I dinged it up when I was exposing it, it was covered with cement. What is the best way to split this line?

On the picture of the skimmer, I marked lines with green chalk of where I thought I should cut the deck to expose the skimmer and break it down. I want to know if this is a good idea or I should be cutting somewhere else?
