should algea preventer be used if none present

I have been using BBB method all year for the first time and all my test results with the taylor kit adding bleach ea day are where they should be.Just had a thought,should I be adding any type of preventive to my AG weekly as routine, and if so what type such as polyquat

You can if you want, but it is not necessary. I never add algaecide to my pool. If you do decide to do so, the only algaecide we recommend is Polyquat 60%.

Guess I might have been getting bored not having to work against myself since dumping bioguard.

I started using polyquat this year in my inground pool and I have noticed my pool doesn't feel so 'slippery' on the walls and bottom anymore. We also had some tiny patches of mustard algae last year and I haven't had this problem at all this year. Even though I was pretty vigilant with the BBB method, sometimes my chlorine would drop more quickly than expected, almost as if the pool was on the verge of fighting something. This year I also added boric acid. For me, the combination seems to serve as a safety net for times when the chlorine isn't as high as it should be.

It's not needed, even for closing and/or opening a pool?

It is certainly fine to use it. But, not necessary. I never use it in my pool.
