Re: Pump / Filter Question
s180 is a 180 lb filter, should be fine for the pool.
I would highly recommend a 1.0 hp two speed pump. the lower speed for regular filtering, the high speed for the vacuum.
Re: Pump / Filter Question
Thanks for the reply!
Just a follow-up, a relative of mine has a 1.5 hp pump that he's willing to give to me. Assuming that the pump is OK to use for this pool (I know it's probably too powerful for a pool of this sizel), just to save some bucks, would this be compatible with the S180 filter or would it just blow it out?
Thanks
Re: Pump / Filter Question
If the pump is free I would go for it. From what I have seen it should work for you. If I were to by one I could not agree more with Matt.
Best of luck, Dennis
Re: Pump / Filter Question
If it's a 1.5 hp Above Ground pump it's probably OK. But if it's an In Ground pump it may well be too strong. That depends on whether it's an "up-rated" or "full-rated" pump. If it's full-rated, you may be able to get a replacement impeller that lowers the output from the pump.
It all comes down to the GPM the pump puts out, and the max GPM the filter can stand. The pump MUST be less than the filter.
Normally, I would suggest a pump no bigger than 1/2 hp for a pool that size. With that filter, a 1/2 hp would give you great filtering as the filter would be under capacity, and sand filters filter much better when they aren't at or near capacity.
HRSDennis may be able to give you better details if you can provide the pump brand and model # . I know the basics, he knows the details.
Re: Pump / Filter Question
Good Morning.
The pump is a 1.5hp vortex XL.
The model # is XL-150s
Thanks for all of the responses!
Re: Pump / Filter Question
Thanks Carl, you see I am so stuck in above ground mode this time of year I completely forgot about the possibility of it being an inground pump. There is a big difference.
howdoo, Mostly I just hook this stuff up and trouble shoot when they don't run right. If I sold them I would have to know all of this technical stuff like model numbers and what goes with what.
I can however set up a filter system that won't leak when it is full and ready to use. 99% of the time anyway:)
Maybe someone else can jump in and tell us what those model numbers mean.
It's just Greek to me.

Re: Pump / Filter Question
Yeah, I've been trying to find out info on it and hit snake-eyes. No luck.
Re: Pump / Filter Question
GOT IT! :D
Took some sluething -- The pump is made by Poolco industries.
Here is a link with all of the technical data, etc.:

Thanks again for your assistance!
Re: Pump / Filter Question
It seems to be an above ground pool pump. I think I found info on it here.
