Intex Saltwater System ..How long does it take until I have chlorine? HARD water.

Bought the system, salt is at optimal level and it has been running for a few days with no measurable chlorine yet. I have had to descale the titanium plates twice so far to get rid of the gunk from the hard water (I think that's what it is from anyway) Water is nice and clear and seems to be very high quality. 18X48" How long should it take to get measurable chlorine?

I don't know. But, if your CYA is too low, it may be that any chlorine that is produced is not sticking around for long and is being lost to the sun.

Do you have a drops-based test kit? If so, please give us some current water testing numbers and also tell us what kind of kit you have.

If you don't, you need one. The test kit that we think is by far the best is the Taylor K2006 or 2006C (better buy). Not available locally but you can get it through this link that takes you to Amazon: http://pool9.net/tk/

But, in the meantime, go to Walmart and see if they have the HTH 6-Way drops-based kit (no test strips!) and get that. If they don't, get an OTO/Phenol Red kit (yellow and red drops) instead. Use it to test and then post your numbers. Also while you are at WallyWorld, get several jugs of their generic 8.25% bleach and a couple of boxes of 20 Mule Team Borax (laundry aisle).

By the way, disconnect the copper electrode to your SWCG. Contrary to popular belief, it is not chlorine that causes staining and makes light-colored hair turn green. Rather, it is caused by copper!
