Need help Intex pool

Hello. I have a 12 x 24 metal ultra frame Intex pool. It has the screen on the wall that the skimmer hose attaches to. This screen gets plugged up frequently with debris and when I take the skimmer hose and blue fitting(for skimmer hose attachment) off to clean the screen all the debris floats off the screen and to the bottom of the pool before I can even clean it off. How are other people dealing with this problem. I'm trying to come up with a way to catch this debris so it doesn't get back into the pool. It's really frustrating when trying to clean the screen plus it gets plugged up so fast and then the water outflow is decreased. Thanks for any help that anyone can give me.
