Can Diamond Brite be put on top of marcite
Colleagues,
My first post, but you have a great forum with lots of useful information.
My pool is being resurfaced because it is 20 years old and the marcite is breaking down in many places now. So, I am doing new tiles, new LED lights and Diamond Brite. They are removing the old tiles in order to put the new ones in. But, the contractor is telling me that the Diamond Brite goes over the existing marcite (they are going to scrape around all the water jets and a couple of hairlines though). Is this the way it's done?
Best regards and thanks in advance for your feedback.

. . . membership updated.
With any finish coat -- paint, FG, Diamond Brite, etc -- the quality of the bond to the pool can NEVER be better than the quality of the bond of what the new stuff is on top of.
It sounds like you may have delaminated marcite -- you can test this by 'pecking' around the floor and walls with a small hammer. Solidly bonded marcite 'pings'; delaminated marcite 'pocks'. If you put the greatest finish in the world on top of something loose . . . the new finish will be loose too!
Does that answer your question?

PoolDoc,
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question, and yes it does answer it indeed.
The pocks are going to be repaired, as well as all the areas around the all the water jets, before the Diamond Brite is put on, so that part will be taken care of. I think I feel better now.
Best regards and keep up the good work of helping people with swimming pool issues, concerns and questions. I will certainly be checking this forum often.
