Help with cloudy pool, white algae
I have an intex pool 12x30 8005litres. I'm new to pools. Last week after being open about a month pool looked dull. Store recommended a pool clarifier. That night I put on the cover. We had 2 days of hard rain. I pulled off the cover and pool was now completely cloudy white. I've run the pump none stop for 3 days. Changing the filters. It settles to the bottom. I try to vacuum it with a hand held vacuum and it just spreads it through the pool again. I test strip the water everyday and levels are all fine. I don't want to have to spend a fortune on this pool. Don't have the money! Please help. You can see the particles floating in the water.
Thanks
Re: Help with cloudy pool, white algae
Is dumping and refilling an option for you? That would probably be the fastest fix.
Test strips are not reliable. Go to Walmart and see if they have the HTH 6-Way drops-based kit (no test strips!) and get that. If they don't, get an OTO/Phenol Red kit (yellow and red drops) instead. Use it to test and then post your numbers. Also while you are at WallyWorld, get several jugs of their generic 8.25% bleach and a couple of boxes of 20 Mule Team Borax (laundry aisle).
Let us know if refilling is possible and if you are able to find the test kit. Then, someone here can try and help.

Re: Help with cloudy pool, white algae
As W-M suggested, a dump and refill is your best option, if water's not super-expensive in your area. Intex pools can be MAINTAINED with very clear water, but their pump and filter systems are not adequate for CLEANING UP water once it's become cloudy.
If you can't dump and refill, go to the SSR page: => http://pool9.net/ssr/ and follow the links to Unicel cartridges. They will filter much better than the Intex cartridges.
Also, look at the battery vacs: http://pool9.net/cleaning/
They work in Intex pools, but it's really difficult to set up a conventional hose and pole vacuum in the small intex models.
