I need to lower my alkalinity (190) I understand I need to do the muriatic acid thing...but I don't have access to a spa jet for areation and the pool water is too cold for a bunch of 10 year old boys. How should I attempt aeration?

Point the return eyeballs toward the surface.Quote:

How about getting a fitting that will screw into your return, have an elbow on it and attaching a piece of pvc pipe to direct the return flow up and out of your water, so it comes splashing back in.
That's where I'm headed, I think :)
I used my Polaris 380. Took the bag off. Then placed it in the corner of the stairs at a slight angle so that the venturi jets also contribute with a fountain effect and it doesn't run around. The main water jet in the back works great and you can also use the 'tail' jet to aerate. Mucho bubbles. Of course, it may wind up breaking the Polaris, but mine is still working fine.
I have a light/discharge combo that shoots out the side. This return is very easy to shoot right out of the water.
If you have a regular return, but it won't break the surface...you could try buying one of the fountain attachments.

There's a little fountain, costs about $20, that you unscrew the eyeball and screw the fountain into the return instead. It can spray water about 10' up and 30' out. Works GREAT!
I bought the fountain for the looks and ambiance and used it last weekend for a party. it brought down my TA by 10 to 90(I did not need the drop) in 7 hours. I have a 33000 gal pool. I hooked it up to pool cleaner and plugged the other returns using rubber freeze plugs - I don't have eyeballs - Old pool.

You can also use a submersible pump and a short hose or just put it on the steps.
I like that, I will probably do it sometime to see how it works.:DQuote:
