new user, new above ground pool
Hello,
I tried to post my first message a month ago, and it didn't work. Trying again, now that we have our pool up and filled.
I have read all the pool tips. yay me, ha ha. I am wondering if I am missing something from our test results, or...
We filled the pool 3 days ago. We continue to have good Cl levels. We have put nothing in the pool, except some borax. Last night the pH was over 8.2. This morning we put in muriatic acid and sprayed a bit of hose water onto the surface, and ran the pump for three hours. pH down to 7.8. Cool!
So, we have added no chlorine, because our levels seem to be good. Does that seem right? Makes me nervous to have added no bleach whatsoever. Maybe we have good residual from our water company?
Thanks for any comments you may have. I so very much am grateful for this forum.
Pool is 18 x 9 x 52", it that matters.
Re: new user, new above ground pool
What kind of test kit are you using?
Re: new user, new above ground pool
I got an HTC 6 in 1. It does have the OTC Chlorine test.

A good way to begin would be to use our Super Simple Start-up Recipe. You can read about what to do here: http://pool9.net/ssr/
If you don't get some bleach in there, you're going to have a green pool pretty quick! You can find directions and dosing info in that link above.

Are you sure of the dimensions of the pool? That would be an awful skinny pool!
Re: new user, new above ground pool
Thank you! Just the info I needed. And yes, that's the right size. Got it from Sears.
It's an Intex. Perfect for our needs right now. Basically an exercise pool for 1-2 people. Occasional visitors.
Has had very little use so far. It's wedding week for daughter. We are crazy busy.
Has a sand filter, for which we got quartz silica sand for pools. have been running it 6 hours each night. Didn't have a lot to spend, but didn't want the nightmare of those paper filters. Hoping this
is a good compromise.
Also, it's been a pretty cool season so far. The water temp is still cold.
I think that's why the chlorine ppm level has been ok.

Ok. Well, hopefully that 'recipe' will help you get started. Let us know if you have further questions and happy wedding week! ;)

Oh, no problem. I don't quite yet understand all the sections, anyway. :o)
