First time pool owner with brown water
I just bought a 15 foot, 3.5 foot deep round above ground pool. I got it filled, and my cousin added an entire bag of super shock and swim shock treatment and one 3 - in one chlorination skimmer tablet. Our water is now brown, and all of the levels are off the charts when I tested them. Since then, I added an ounce of super concentrated clarifier and 10 ounces of pH minus. Nothing has changed. The levels are still through the roof, and the water is disgustingly brown. The filter has been running nonstop for well over 12 hours. All products used were hth brand. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have no clue what to do. I'm thinking that the iron levels are high, but I don't know, and I don't know what to do to fix this problem (if that's what's wrong).
Re: First time pool owner with brown water
1. Get a local OTO/phenol red drops kit, and test your pool.
2. Did you fill your pool with the same water you use in your house? Do you have a softener or other filter on your house water? What does the INSIDE of a toilet tank in your house look like?
3. Is this an Intex or other soft-side pool?
If you have a soft-side pool, read the Super Simple recipe -- it does not apply at this point, to your pool, but there's still a lot of relevant info there: http://pool9.net/ssr/
