Rapid water loss after heavy rain
Two Thursdays ago, we received 4.5" of rain in a period of about 8 hours. Before the rain started, the pool water level was about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom of the skimmer. When the rain ended, the water level was above the top of the skimmer.
The rains stopped late Thursday night, and by Friday afternoon the water level was almost below the skimmer opening (the skimmers were taking in air). Given the rapid water loss, I thought that the pool sprung a leak during the rain. I filled the pool back up on Friday night with plans to diagnose the leak. To my surprise, the water level has held since the refilling (other than the normal splash-out and evaporation).
At this point, I am at a loss for why the pool lost water so rapidly after the rain stopped. I don't mind if this was some sort of isolated incident, but I am concerned that it is indicative of a true leak somewhere. Does anyone have an idea of what might have caused this rapid water loss?
Re: Rapid water loss after heavy rain
Hello and welcome to THE FORUM. I can only assume that you somehow formed a siphon with the overfilled pool. If it only looses water when the pool is ~ deck level full and you aren't experiencing 'abnormal' loss otherwise -I wouldn't worry about it :)
