O - ring lubrication
What should you use? I've always thought of petroleum jelly -- but realize that may deteriorate the o-ring. I've read other posts mentioning Silicon - but I only see that in an aerosol spray at Lowes. The pool stores sell Jack's lube -- but they are $10 for a very small tube - and I also want to lubricate other stuff as well - ( so I'm looking for something bigger).
Any recommendation for something at HD or Lowes? ( On a side note: be careful using keyword from this post in a google search at work - I was surprised at the results -- I guess I should have thought about it first :-)

I also heard Vaseline cound be bad so I avaoided it. The Jack's products all seem pricey to me but seem to have a good reputation. I bought another brand at the pool store for around $4 but don't recall the name. Lasts a real long time so even the Jack's is not that bad in the total realm of pool ownership expenses.

Re: O - ring lubrication
Used 2 kinds of silicone lube. One from a marine/boat dealer, but I can't remember the name. The one I use now is called Alladin Magic Lube II, 1oz vial $4.99 @ pool store. I grab a few each time I go in there. It's seems pricey to me, but convenient.

Re: O - ring lubrication
Any o-ring lubricant will work...you can get it anywere they sell plumbing stuff (ACE Hardware, Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.). Usually near the o-rings. It's not expensive $1-2 per tube and it should last a while. I think sometimes it's called plumbers lube or something...it'll say right on it that it's for use with o-rings though.
