First post on this forum, looking forward to joining in some of the technical debates. I am in the industry in Europe but not selling anything (postage too high for one thing) That was a joke! I have around 11 years experience all of it good LoL.

Hi Teapot;
When I was processing your registration, I checked your domain (most non-US registrants are spammers) and ended up at your Loire Valley vacation rental site. Nice!
However, I need to caution you that we've learned -- the hard way -- that we can't help folks outside of North America with any specific equipment equipment questions, or even with most specific chemistry questions. The reason is that the products we depend on -- for testing and treatment are mostly unavailable outside N. Amer. -- and the equipment is all different.
So, if find a way to test your pool accurately (Palintest, Lovibond are 2 better brands), and find that your stabilizer or alkalinity are too high, we can offer your options for correction . . . but we can't tell you what to use, or where to find the products you need to make those corrections.
Sorry!
But, other than that, welcome!
Hi Ben,
Thanks for the welcome, shouldn't be a problem for me as I have plenty of experience and may be able to share that with others on this side of the Atlantic if anyone gets stuck. You are a legend so great to be with you. I know some of the others too like Richard Falk, who found his way onto one of our forums and after the initial er introductions and general hostility to being told your not correct, well you know Richard he became a great contact and another I admire for sweeping away the BS that has existed in our industry. Mas is great for his knowledge of pumps and hydraulics so it will be good to chat once more. I do find sometimes my writing can be a little direct, it's not meant to be, I am a sociable person but if that occurs please don't hestitate to put me straight and I will learn your style of posting quickly.
Kind regards
John
Are you in the pool business, or is your interest just based on the rental properties you have?
The reason I ask is, that it would be helpful if someone who is knowledgeable in the British (and French) markets, could tell us what *is* available. I spent several hours last summer (2012) trying to find testkits for a British pool owners, and came away rather unhappy. There were some tablet based Palintest & Lovibond kits, selling for the equivalent of $250+ US that appeared to have about 90% of the functionality of the $80 US Taylor K2006.
And, I was never able to work out whether the pool owner could buy bleach, borax, baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), or washing soda (sodium carbonate) in supermarkets. Nor, could I determine which pool chemicals (dichlor, trichlor, polyquat 60, cal hypo, HEDP) that we often recommend, were available.
