big pool folks?
is there a thread somewhere in this forum dealing with the experiences of big outdoor pool operators? I started operating a large camp pool (110K gals) and find that all the factors of weather, heavy swimmer load and an older pool to be overwhelming sometimes. Then I hear that big indoor pools are a different breed of pool so that whatever I think I know after the summer might not prepare me for a winter job at an indoor pool. is this true?

Re: big pool folks?
Commercial pools like you describe are very different than home pools. They were what I did, for 25+ years. In fact, my original idea in starting PoolSolutions was to provide information for my customer.
But, I discovered that commercial pool operators are 'helicopter' forum members -- flying in for a solution, and then flying away, and never becoming a part of the community. Plus there's the whole thing with bosses: most commercial pools have at least 5 people making decisions about how they are operated.
Indoor pools, if they have much of a bather load at all, are much different than outdoor pools, and not in a good way.
Basic chemistry applies to both residential and commercial pools -- if you read and learn what's here, it will help you. If you also learn to distrust pool industry authorities, that will also help you. But, I haven't written a guide to outdoor commercial pool operation, much less one for indoor pools, and have no immediate plans to do so.
Sorry.

Re: big pool folks?
Thanks for the quick reply PoolDoc/Ben,
I've had trouble finding this thread when I get on a borrowed computer...never did and so this reply is via phone...
I have read everything I can get a hold of to learn pools. I actually started reading off the TroubleFreePool site and then found this site thinking there might be more discussion about the comercial side. Being limited in my current access to a computer and then to the actual threads or pages has slowed me up a bit. I gather you authored the Bens Best Guess chart. Wow what an honor. I soak up every bit of info. I'm hoping that I'll not be a helicopter because there's too much to learn. Thanks from Woodhaven.
I do have a question about the degredation of CYA over the winter but I suppose I should try and find the thread I saw your reply to somebody about it in and start there...
