I stopped using calcium hypochlorite to shock due to the sediment it left in my pool. I've used store bought bleach (8.25%) one time and it took some time for chlorine levels to come back down to the 1-2 ppm I like to keep (2-3 days)
Is that length of time normal?
Would it be prudent to turn off my frog when I shock with bleach?
We don't like the frog. It adds unwanted stuff to your pool like metals. Turn it off for good.
Without knowing your CYA level, we can't comment on whether keeping your chlorine between 1-2ppm is the right level. Needed chlorine levels are dependent on CYA levels. (See the Best Guess Chlorine Chart in my signature below for more about that.)
Don't know my CYA level but I can find out. I guess the bigger question of my post went to how long it should take chlorine levels to drop after shocking with bleach. Or is that tied to the CYA level too?

It is tied to lots of things: CYA level, amount of debris in the pool, number of swimmers, weather, etc. In other words, there is no way to know for sure how long it will take for chlorine levels to drop.
According to my pool "professional" my CYA is 66. But here is the strange thing. I tested my chlorine at about 2 ppm with my drop test kit before I took the sample in for testing at the store. They tested the sample at 0 FC, 0.57 TC and 0.57 CC. Pool water is perfectly clear and no chlorine odor to speak of. I tested TA at 110, same as the store but they had my pH at 7.9 where I had it at 7.6 both before and after my visit. I know my eyes aren't that bad when it comes to colors. Any advice?

Buy a Taylor K2006 or 2006 C (link in my signature below) and quit depending on others to test your water. You will get better and more reliable numbers.
Again, if you haven't done so already, read the Best Guess Chlorine Chart below. Your chlorine is too low for CYA in the mid 60s.
