Taking off the main drain cover?
First, I have a 20X40 vinyl liner pool.
Can I take off the main drain covers without any adverse effects?
There are 2 screws on each cover. I would like to see if there is a buildup of debis inside. My main drain does not pull enough water to keep the pump primed. I have to use at least one of the 2 skimmers with the main drain to operate. I am sure it worked properly last year.
I guess the trick would be to use a really long screwdriver.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
JD

Personally, I've never done it, but I don't see a problem with it. Just make sure the pump is off before you start.

J, welcome to the forum! Of course you can take the covers off, that's why they are screwed in instead of being integral to the unit. If what you are asking is whether the seal of the liner will be compromised by removing the cover, the answer is no - as you'll see when you pull the cover, the seal is made by the plate held down by 8 screws, so pulling off the cover does not compromise the seal. If the obstruction is not readily reachable, you may have to try to force some water backwards through the line to get it out. If you have any more ?s, just ask and I'll give what help I can, as well as the other folks here.
