Muriatic acid and lowering TA

I'm following the guide to lower total alkalinity and was just curious, how long should I wait after adding acid before testing ph?

Wait about 3 or 4 hours so it has a chance to mix in well.

Lowering alkalinity takes a long time, doesn't it?

Yes, it takes awhile but it does work.
