Struggling with pool setup

Hey all...thank you for having this wonderful place to go with all of our pool probs. We are setting up our Intex 14'x42' vinyl pool for only the second time. The first time we just used Shock and had an obviously hard time keeping up with the algae. This time, we used Muriatic Acid and shock and then we added a scad amount of chlorine tab. Well...we ended up with a decent pH (7.5) but our Cl/br level was off the chart. This morning, our water had gone from yellow to brown so we emptied about half the water, refilled and tested again. The Cl level was fine and the pH was a little on the high end, but our water is still yellow. We cant afford the six-way tester. but we have a 2 way that measures the pH and Cl/bromine. First, how do we get back the clear water and second, is there any other alternative to pool stabilizer? Thanks so much!
