New User, Just Getting Started

I have an Intex Easy-Set 18' x 48" pool. Last year we added the salt system to the pool & were pretty happy with results. Our biggest problem was daily "low-flow" errors due to the crummy filter cartridges getting clogged so quickly. I had to rinse them out DAILY. So this year we've upgraded to the Intex Sand Filter Pump. I'm hoping this will solve those problems. I'm now out to search out how to use my existing vacuum with the new pump. Nothing in the instruction manual says to continue using the over-the-side skimmer basket that came with the pool; but I'm thinking I will need to. Otherwise, there is no way for leaves & other large matter to reach the pre-pump skimmer on the sand filter pump. I'm also going to be researching other vacuums, as the one that came with the pool is a joke. The tiny little bag fills up within a couple minutes, at best, of vacuuming.
