High cya cloudy pool
I just got my Taylor k2006 confused on the chlorine test. I couldn't get it to turn link so wasn't sure what to do next. Levels as follows
FC 0
PH 6.5
Alk 50
CH 260
Cya 100
I am also confused on the watergram wheel. I have been running my pump 24/7 and dolphin robot 8+ hours/ day
Thanks in advance!

Re: High cya cloudy pool
If you put two scoops of the DPD powder in and the sample did not turn pink, then you have no chlorine. And, if your CYA is measuring 100, that means it actually could be much higher than 100. High CYA and no chlorine are an algae bloom waiting to happen! Please take a look at the Best Guess Chlorine Chart in my signature below for the correlation between CYA and needed chlorine levels. You need to get some in there ASAP and since you let it drop to 0, I would suggest taking it up to shock level.
I assume you have been using trichlor tabs or dichlor shock powder and that is why your CYA is so high. No more of either one! They both add CYA and yours is already too high! Stick with using bleach or liquid chlorine.
Also, it is very critical that you get your pH up over 7.0 ASAP. Readings below 7.0 are acidic and can damage your pool. You can use 20 Mule Team Borax (laundry aisle at Walmart) to raise your pH. You might also want to add a little baking soda to bump your alk up some. You didn't list your volume, so I can't recommend amounts.
(Ignore the watergram wheel in the kit.)

Re: High cya cloudy pool
I have a 32k gallon vinyl lined IG pool just added 2 boxes of Borax. The chlorine has been at hock level for a week buy continues to be cloudy. I was using the 6 way hth kit showed CL at yellow/ orange for a week. How much bleach should I use? I have 8.25% sodium hypochlorite. I have been having a hard time keeping the ph up. Gone thru 6 boxes of borax in the last week
Thanks for your help Watermom!

Re: High cya cloudy pool
How many ounces are in those 8.25% bleach jugs?

Re: High cya cloudy pool
The jugs of bleach are 121 oz

Re: High cya cloudy pool
If you read the Best Guess chart I mentioned before, you'll see that a pool with extremely high CYA like yours needs a shock level of 25ppm. So, you can see that when you stated that you have kept your pool at shock level for the past week, you actualy haven't been going high enough.
Each of those jugs will add approximately 2.5ppm of chlorine to your pool. You can use that as a reference to figure out doses of bleach to add while you are trying to clear up the pool.
Three hours or so after you put that dose of Borax in, retest pH and before you add the large doses of bleach. If your pH is not above 7.0. add more Borax. Get your pH above 7 before you shock the pool because the pH test won't give an accurate reading when you chlorine level is as high as you are going to have to take it.
You are going to need to keep your chlorine level at shock level until the following conditions are met: the pool clears, and until you can go from sundown one evening to within one hour of sunrise the next morning without losing more than 1ppm of chlorine and until your CC reading is no higher than 0.5. Then, keep the chlorine at shock level for one more day for good measure and then let it drift down and keep it between 8-15ppm all the time. If you let it drop lower than that, you'll have another algae bloom to deal with. Also, run the pump 24/7 while you are trying to clear the water.
What have you been using as your source of chlorine, by the way? Also, what kind of filter do you have?
Hope this helps.

Re: High cya cloudy pool
For CYA to have built up to higher than 100, there has to have been more than 2 weeks worth of trichlor tabs. Is that what has been used in past years? Any dichlor shock powder this year or previous years? Are you sure the CYA test was 100? Did the CYA test cloud up really quickly?
By the way, you are welcome!

Re: High cya cloudy pool
I am not sure what kind of shock the guy who opened the pool put in. I was using bleach only last year. The last time I tested it was almost 2 weeks ago & I ran out of cya testing drops. It was 75 the last time I checked. The only way to drop the cya is backwash & refill right?
Any idea what's making it so cloudy?
