I have the K-2006 and notice there is nothing to neutralize the pool test sample like my pool store does. Maybe the 2006 doesn't need it. I ask a lot but I'm hopeful one day to contribute to others like me that know nothing about pool care but getting more knowledgeable by the minute. I've had the 2006 for 1 week and tested my pool 5 times kinda fun Thx...dave
A special proprietary blend of chlorine neutralizers are built into the Taylor pH reagent. That is intentional since using separate sodium thiosulfate drops tends to raise the pH. Even with these special chlorine neutralizers in the Taylor pH test, it is still only accurate up to around 10 ppm FC though if you have CYA in the water and measure the pH within 10-15 seconds, you can usually get a reasonable reading. The CYA buffers the chlorine to slow down its reaction with the pH reagent and if you wait too long then the pH color will get more purple as a falsely high reading. On the other hand, if you are shocking the pool with a hypochlorite source of chlorine, the pH is actually high anyway and will come back down when the FC level drops.
