Cutting liner for larger hose

I upgraded my Intex 12x30 pump to a 1500 gph one. I did buy the converter kit to hook up to the smaller inlet and outlet connections. Works ok, except I want to install the included larger strainer and nozzle.

I looked at the pool and to cut the holes larger, it appears I have to cut out the black inlet and outlet hoses attached to the liner. Before I make that cut, do those have to be cut out completely? I have read via google search that people have done the larger hole cut, but they do not mention this specific question. I know to cut slowly and be conservative. Using the black washer as a template, using a sharpie to outline the inner diameter as a template.
