spring startup mutivalve question

I haven't opened up my pool for the spring. I know it is going to be solid green. I replaced the sand in my sand filter. I know you are suppose to backwash first after replacing the sand.

My question is...after I have backwashed. I was going to add some bleach into my pool to shock it. Do, I add the bleach and put it on circulate or filter until my water clears up?

I heard if you put it on filter first it might get your sand filter some unnecessary algae.

Would it be wise to test the water before the inital shock?
