Replacing a Pentair Dynamo with a WhisperFlo .. AC plug for 110V timer?

I got back from the holidays to find my pool pump was blown. In pulling it apart for an initiate check, I found some problems.

a) the pump is truly dead. The capacitor seems okay, after taking it to a local pool shop they broke pins trying to open the motor and said it needs to be replaced.
b) the dead pump is a Pentair Dynamo 1,1/2 HP for an above-ground pool. I have a 14000 Gallon in-ground pool.
c) the Dynamo is a 110V pump that was plugged into a digital timer (using a plug)
d) the bonding wire was clipped

So I'm trying to go about replacing my pump with a better suited pump, and fix this whole mess. Here's what I'm looking at along with questions:

1) I plan to fix the bonding wire as per a thread I found on this forum, by using a copper clamp and higher grade solder. Thank you for that post! :) Is there any worry that the bonding wire was originally cut for a safety reason? Is there a way to test that it's safe?

2) I've purchased a Pentair WhisperFlo Energy Efficient 115/230V 3/4 HP pump. Since this pump supports 115V, am I okay to put a construction grade plug on the end and plug it into my digital timer or do I have to get a new mechanical timer and hardwire it all? Pros/cons?
