Deck heave and settling

A section of my deck has settled a great deal (over the past couple years) due to construction contractor's failure to pack the soil. The section is 4 ft by 10 ft. It has actually tilted up and away from the pool, leaving a 1 inch gap to the coping and a 1 inch lip to the adjoining deck sections. Has anyone had any success in repairing such a situation. I've heard of concrete jacking, but I imaging it would be a huge expense for such a small job.

I'm also thinking of trying to fix it myself by excavating out the section and trying to carefully and meticuously jack it myself at multiple points, but of course I run the risk of cracking the the section into additional pieces. Deck did NOT have re-bar, just a mesh.

I'm also running out of time before needing to shut down and winterize and may just seal it all up and live with it. I think it's pretty stabble, but not entirely sure. It's not too bad, but definitely noticable and a toe-tripping hazard.

Any advise appreciated.

I'll be interested in any responses you get--my concrete decking is settling, too, after 11 years. Think the earthquake we had about 2 months ago and the very dry drought conditions from last year helped. It's not bad yet, but it's getting there.

What will help, is pics from both of you. I find it difficult to help without some sort of visual reference.

I'd do as Charlie suggested and post a couple of pics - just so we're all on the same page. I'm not sure if concrete 'jacking' is a viable option but I've ripped out and replaced hundreds of square feet of decking and will be happy to advise you on the project.

Upload it to a free image hosting site such as flickr.com or photobucket.com (or another). Then get the url for that image from the site you uploaded it to, and click the "picture" icon at the top of the posting form here. It will prompt you to enter the url that you got from the other site. Alternatively, I believe you can email them to poolforum at gmail dot com with a link to this thread and pooldoc can add it for you.

I sent a photo to pooldoc. It shows the worst section where I cut away the deck o seal (which had mostly separated from the soping) to show the gap.
