Pool Light Junction Boxes
I was attempting to respond to a junction box light question. My response, as a builder and owner, the light junction box is governed by the IBC & the IRC (international bldg / residential codes)
the box is to be a min of 8' above the average normal operating water level of pool and more than 5' off the edge of water away from pool. This is to avoid someone touching the box and water simultaneously, and it is above ground to keep the wire connections dry when jumping into pool.
Some good disguises for this box are planting some type of grass plant around it, or placing a bench over it. Some build a false bottom bench/box in the bottom of box to facilitate the junction box and allow for storage of various equipment and or toys.
yes it is unsightly but is mandatory, do not try to bend or move this in any way as you can actually crack or break off the back of the light niche and cause a permanent or persistant problem with leakage.
Hiding it within landscaping is what most people do to hide this necessary feature. I hope this helps.
