Why did water turn cloudy after superchlorination

A friend of mine has a 21,000 AG vinyl lined pool with chlorine feeder.

He is going out of town for about a week. He called me last night and said he had algae in his pool. He asked for suggestions.

He only had strips but his chlorine was around 2-4, and CYA around 30-50, with PH near 7.8. I told him to bring his chlorine level up to 15 by using regular store bleach. He called me this morning telling me his water turned cloudy right after he poured in the bleach. I asked him where he purchased it from and he said the pool store. He said the water is still cloudy this morning.

Unfortunately he already went out of town so he can't check the bleach. My thought was that he used calcium hypo. That would certainly cause the cloudy water. Could regular sodium hypo cause cloudy water?

Bleach will not cloud the water. Do you know TA and calcium hardness levels?

Bleach will not cloud the water....unless he used one of the "new and improved" formulas instead of plain, generic, unscented bleach.
