Time to replace SWG? If so, I have a couple questions
I've got a BioGuard Mineral Springs SWG system that isn't working. It was installed in the Spring of 2005, so this would be its 8th season (if it isn't dead). The "check cell" light is on steadily and it isnt generating chlorine. I pulled the cell and there wasn't much on it, but I soaked it in 50/50 water/acid and blasted with a hose just in case. After that, it still didn't work.
If it matters, I've got a 22k IG gunite pool. The readings on the control unit are:
2200 (minerals, but I'm sure it is above that based on the amount of salt I added at start-up)

1. Is there anything else I can or should do to test it or fix the system?
2. There is a wire after the cell in the plumbing (a ground) - is there anything I should do with it?
3. If I have to replace it, can I just replace the cell or do I need to replace the control unit too?
Thx - I'm already tired of managing chlorine levels without the SWG.

How old is the cell? Could just be that your cell is worn out and needs replacing. My first cell (T-15) on my Aquarite had to be replaced after just 4 seasons.

It is going into its 8th season, so I'm not optimistic but thought I'd check before I spent the $ on a new one. Can I just replace the cell and leave everything else the same? Will any cell work?

If you have a local dealer, they can test your cell, but after 8 seasons I'm betting you just need a new cell. Personally, I would avoid a generic/aftermarket cell and get the same cell that came with your unit.
BTW, I looked on BioGuard's site and that unit looks just like my Aquarite (made by Goldline) except for the labeling.
