Re: Water temp to add salt?
I'll let one of the SWCG folks answer the question about water temps, but you can always use bleach for chlorine during times when your SWCG is not working for whatever reason--chlorine is chlorine is chlorine once it's in the pool! :)
Re: Water temp to add salt?
With my Aquarite, I can add salt at any temp. However, if the water temp is below 60, the unit will only operate at 20% regardless of what level I set it. If the temp goes below 50, then the unit will not operate at all.
Re: Water temp to add salt?
Hi Mr. Mooks, If you would be kind enough to post back with your current Water Temp, I am sure you are o.k. to add your salt now if your water is above 60° F. JimK is right, however, Low water temp can give false measurements if you are relying upon your Controller. My Compupool CPSC24 has an idiot light that tells me that I have low Salt, and that light stays lit almost all winter until the water warms up in the Spring.
What is your actual Salt Reading? How are you measuring it?
Re: Water temp to add salt?
I have no salt level at all yet. They just came and changed my liner and fresh filled the pool. I am more worried about the salt disolving with low water temp. Yesterday the pool temp on the thermometer was 68 F. We had a cool night and even with my solar blanket on it was down to 65F this morning. Sun is out today so hope to get a little heating.
Re: Water temp to add salt?
Don't wait for the salt to dissolve before you get chlorine in the pool--with a fresh fill, you'll have zero CYA, and algae will start up quicker than you can imagine!!

At 68° F You should be good to add your Salt now. Colder temps will affect the efficiency of the SWCG unit, but the Water temp should not impede the salt from dissolving. I agree with Aylad, get some liquid going and add the salt AND THE CYA.
