I've had my pool for 9 years. This is the first year that I've had this fast swimming, oval shaped black bug. Anyone know what they are or how to get rid of them? They tend to swim in circles and stay in the same area of the pool.

Do a search in Wikipedia on "Water Boatman" and "Backswimmer". I'm guessing it's one or the other.
No, these aren't either of those. They are oval in shape, pointed on each end, and have small legs (I suppose...they swim so fast that I don't see their legs).
Maybe posting a pic will help. Send pics to poolforum@gmail.com and reference the URL of this thread.
We call them "click beetles." I'm no entomologist so I don't know what they actually are, but I think I know what you are talking about, we get them regularly. If you turn them upside down on the concrete you will see why we call them click beetles! They have a pronounced mandible if i am thinking they are what we get. My daughter rescues them from their watery fate every morning.
