I am switching form cal hypo and 3" pucks to bleach. My water is very cloudy and I also have white powder in the pool . Any ideas on how long it will take for my water to clear and get rid of the white powder and cloudy water. I am vacumming everyday and starting my bleach today. no more cal hypo and pucks. does anyone have any experience with cloudy water after using cal hypo or pucks.
When we got our pool along with the new house we had almost the same issues you are seeing.
You need to get your pool chemistry posted here for a review but there is a good chance it is calcuim percipitating out. Without the chemistry you ( or we ) can't tell, so please post it.
As to how long it will take to clear is hard to say. It will depend on the type of filter you have, how many hours a day you run it, what is causing the milk etc.
Post your chems and you'll get some better advice to help you along
ok thanks, I have 27,000 gall fiberglass pool. sand filter. owner just changed sand last year. I am trying right now to shock the pool at 20ppm as per a suggestion from this forum, because of course my stabilizer reading was very high at 95-100. which is why i am convinced to switch to bleach. I have been vacumming everyday to get rid of the white powder . it seems like it is getting less and less. but water is stilll very cloudy. If shocking doesn't work and continous vacuuming both to filter and waste I don't know what to do. my numbers before I started increasing my chlorine were:th-250, tc-3, fc-2, ph-7.2, al-80, stablizer-95-100. new to this and just learning but REALLY appreciate all the advice. thank you, thank you. my chlorine right now is at 15ppm and water is still cloudy not any better so I am going to take it up to 20ppm.

With that much stabilizer, I would go to 25ppm....might help a lot. Secondly, 27k is a pretty big fiberglas pool.....have you double checked that? Your Cl may not be getting as high as you think. :)
you think I should go to 25ppm? that was a range someone suggested but I was nervous about going that high. nervous that the chlorine will take forever to come back down naturally after(hopefully)it clears. oh well back to walmart to pick up some more bleach.
Search on the forum for Ben's "best guess" chart. That will give you a little confidence. Your Cl starts coming down immediately...how much and how fast depends on what "bugs" are in your pool.
Double check that gallonage. :)
