To seal or not to seal: marble coping and deck

In our new pool, we have marble cantilever coping and a marble deck. I love the look and even the imperfections in the marble tile pieces, but I do suspect that, over time, the marble just won't hold up that well. Especially the cantilever coping made of marble. (I would have liked to have used bullnose marble pieces for our pool, but that was nearly a $2K upgrade, so I went with the cantilever coping instead).

I'm wondering whether it's a good idea or not to seal marble coping/deck tiles, especially since we have a SWCG?

My reading on the web is inconclusive. Some say yes, sealing better protects the marble from the weather and the salt. Some say no, sealing the marble makes it less able to "breathe" and can cause other problems, too.

Your thoughts? If you do recommend sealing marble decking, is there a specific product that you'd recommend?

I don't have an unreasonable expectation that our marble will last forever, but then, I don't want it crumbling in a few years' time, either. If the Diamond Brite needs resurfacing in 10 or 15 years, I'd want the marble in our pool area to last as long as that.
