When To Do The Other Tests
I am fairly new to the BBB method but I think that I am starting to understand why one needs to spend just a little bit of time each day maintaining the pool. So, each day I check my FC, CC and pH to make sure that they are in range. However, how often should one check the other water balance indicators .... ie. Alkalinity and CYA? Once a week, once a month, after it rains or just when it appears that problems are developing and chlorine / pH are in line?

Re: When To Do The Other Tests
Alkalinity and calcium hardness once a week for a least a few weeks. If they stay pretty stable you can drop it to once a month unless you are using trichlor tabs. Then keep testing alkalinity once a week. CYA should be at least every three months if you have a backwashing filter (sand or non bump type DE) or use stabilized chlorine (trichlor or dichlor). Otherwise twice a year should be fine on a pool open year 'round.
