Nature 2 - Pros? Or only cons?

I tried a search first for past posts on the topic but for some reason can't make that work.

So my question is - I have a Nature 2 Express system, and am coming across ther view that its a waste of money. But ever since I've used it in place of the "normal" amounts of chlorine swimming here has been much nicer. Is it really a waste of money? Its certainly not easy, but the lower chlorine amount is great. On the other hand, my pool guy seems to be at a loss for how to deal with the pool right, and I keep getting algae, and he comes up with weird reasons for it. So its time to take back some responsibility here.

You're going to find that you keep getting algae because of the "lower chlorine amount". You'll find that you still have to keep adequate chlorine in the pool to keep the algae at bay--but then you don't need the Nature2!! But....do as Watermom suggested, and read through the threads--if you still have questions, feel free to come back and post them!

So it'd appear that I can just leave the system in place and start the BBB method.

Once your registration is complete, you will be able to search without logging out. Many of our members still have the system in place but just run it without the cartridge. The problem with continuing to use it is that deposits copper into the water, which, when the level gets high enough, will start staining things green and create a whole other ballgame when trying to maintain clear water.

The N2 helps control algae by an erosion system of, I believe constant small amounts of copper and silver. The idea is that by killing the algae by something other than chlorine, you need less chlorine to take care of the dangerous stuff: Viruses, bacteria and suntan lotion. Oops! Suntan lotion isn't that dangerous chlorine IS used to get rid of it.

But new cartridges are a minimum of $80-$90/season. That would buy you about 23 gallons of 12.5% liquid chlorine (at $17/5 gal jug), which is the equivalent of 47 gallons of 6% bleach. Did your chlorine usage fall by at least 47 gallons of bleach? (I'll make a Wild Assuming Guess that 47 gallons is about equivalent to 40 pounds of Di-chlor powder)

Next, can you get a lovely soft feel to the water with OUT the n2? Certainly. Adding salt to the water helps, as does proper testing, filtering and dosing.

After dumping 3 gallons of Home Chepot sourced chlorine in, the color has gone from an iridescent Gatorade shade to a slightly more-appetizing limeade color. Which would be great if it were in a pitcher and not 20,000 gallons sitting in the sunshine.
