looking for some info on keeping a kiddie pool safe and clean. It's real tiny, maybe 6 feet by 3 feet, rectangular with about a 1 foot depth. I've been draining it regularly, but I find it to be a waste of water. I am trying to find some small filter setups and use the BBB method. Doesn't look like there are any small kiddie pool pumps, and the one's I do find all have bad reviews. Is it possible to use a large aquarium pump?
The equipment gurus should be along soon to help give you useable info, but off the top of my head, I wouldn't think so. A pool the size you describe should contain about 130 gallons. You MAY be able to find a commercially-sized aquarium pump that would eventually get that much water turned over, but you're not going to have suitable filtering.

Do not even think of doing this: the safety standards for not electrocuting fish are NOT high enough for your kids! Do NOT put an electrical pump IN your pool.

Could I suggest you go for an intex easy set filter. You might find a real cheap one on ebay.
The pump/filter sits up to 8 feet away from the pool and comes with a GFCI.
You could crimp the pipes a little to reduce the flow as needed.
Alternatively
If you bought the entire 8 foot intex pool/cover/filter/piping combo, it could cost as little as $50.
I used an 8 footer when my son was a year and a half. I half filled it to about a foot and he had a blast (usually with me sitting in it for safety). It got a bit warm at time so I would top it up with cold as needed.
