Pool's Clean- Need help with adjusting numbers. =)
Thanks for all of the help with the algae problems! Now I need help figuring out what my ideal numbers should be and what I need to adjust to get there. I didn't get to add chlorine yesterday so that number is low. Also, I live in SW Arkansas and it is wicked hot right now. Oh and do I need to add tri-chlor tablets. I've got a ton of them.
Today's readings:
ph: 7.7
FC: 2
CYA 36
TA 160
My pool details are in my siggy.
Thanks!!
Re: Pool's Clean- Need help with adjusting numbers. =)
the trichlor won't hurt right now, but it adds CYA- you probably don't want to be over 40-50 ppm there, so quit using the pucks when the CYA gets there... it will also help reduce the pH, as you are on the high side right now!
I would add 1 jug of bleach, to get your FC above 3, and use the pucks to help hold it up until your CYA gets to 50, then use just bleach.
Keep an eye on the pH- add muriatic acid to lower it if it goes any higher, or add borax to raise it if it drops below 7.2 or 7.3...
Re: Pool's Clean- Need help with adjusting numbers. =)
If you do use the trichlor pucks for a short time, your pH will likely drop so I wouldn't add the muriatic acid just yet. (You won't be able to use the pucks for long. Your CYA level is already approaching 40-50 which is where you want it. Double check to make sure you don't have dual-acting trichlor pucks with copper in them! If you do, do NOT use them.

Yeah- I forgot about those dual acting ones! thanks, Watermom, for adding to my recommendation!
Re: Pool's Clean- Need help with adjusting numbers. =)
Thanks! I'll check and see what it is that I have.
Re: Pool's Clean- Need help with adjusting numbers. =)
OK, since doing this, my ph has gone up to at least 8. I guess it's time to add the acid?
Re: Pool's Clean- Need help with adjusting numbers. =)
Yes, time for muriatic acid. Be careful with the stuff. Gloves, glasses, pour it close to the pool to avoid splashing, be upwind of fumes.
