New Polaris 165 - Questions

I just purchased and installed a new Polaris 165 cleaner. The cleaner seems to be working, but I notice that the cleaner likes to stay in the deeper end of the pool. I watched it for about 45 mins. and noticed that it went partially into the shallow end only once during that time. Am I doing something wrong? I'm pretty sure I followed the installation instructions correctly and properly adjusted the length of both hoses.

The pool is inground and is 12'x30' (approx. 8500gal). I have 2 wall return jets, 2 return jets in the stairs, and 2 return jets in the floor of the deep end. I currently have the stair jets off and the floor jets off. The cleaner is attached to the wall return jet nearest the pump. The other wall return is open. If all the returns are open, I notice that the cleaner doesn't move around as well or at all.

Can I keep the cleaner connected to the wall return and in the pool when the pump is off?

Sounds like the Polaris is being disturbed by the other jets. It's pretty sensitive to any other movement in the water. It relies on alternating shooting jets.
Alternatively, the mechanism inside can get out of whack and some jets aren't running correctly. The Polaris should alternate among all its jets, but it shouldn't seem to "favor" any one or another. They should all seem pretty much the same. Do you notice the surface unit wrapping the hose into a coil that it cannot escape? That's a sign of a problem internally. If you are not seeing that I suspect the other jets are pushing the Polaris away from the shallow end. Try hooking it to one of THOSE returns and see if it avoids the deep end...

Carl, thanks for your reply. The unit never really wrapped itself into a coil that it could not escape. It moved around pretty good, just favored the deeper part of the pool and one particular corner in that end. As I mentioned in my original post, I have several return jets. 2 in the wall, 2 in the stairs, and 2 in the floor. I can turn the 2 floor jets and the two stair jets off with valves. The 2 wall jets however are tied to one valve so I can't turn the one that the Polaris isn't connected to off. I will say this, the unit comes with 2 "eyeball regulators". The instructions say to place the eyeball regulators into the remaining jets. I didn't do that. The remaining wall jet was open. This may have been the problem. This morning I put the eyeball regulator into the other wall jet. I will see if the unit operates better tonight.

Good luck with it!
You could remove the other jets and put screw-in winter plugs in them so all the return water goes to the Polaris.

BTW, if you throw some cotton balls or sheet cotton into the bag, it will catch a lot of finer debris that would pass through the bag.

I don't know, I can't get this thing to cover the entire pool. I switched return jets but that didn't help much. The hose is not coiled at all. I'm about to give up and got back to manual vacuum.
