Salt Water system with sand filter?
Okay I have tried searching the forum for the answer, but I am currently deployed to Afganistan and my internet is sketchy and slow at best, so searching takes WAY too long to deal with.
I have a couple questions about ABGP and saltwater generator system with sand filters. While I am going to be still be deployed for the next couple months, my wife is going to buy probably this pool, an
Intex-Ultra-Round-Above-Ground-Swimming, from Target
We want a saltwater system and sand filter to go with it. I have searched Amazon and found the Krystal Clear system from Intex and a couple of thier sand filters. My question is will the sand filter work with the Krystal Clear system? We really don't want to do the traditional chlorine and I want to make it as easy for my wife to deal with while I am gone, and easy for me when I am home. We live in Northwest Arkansas, and city tap water will fill the pool. I will be able to understand the PH and whatever else chemicals, I am just thinking that using the sand filter with the saltwater will both keep the pool clean and better for the skin and eyes for our 6 year ols swimming in it. I know it might be overkill, but I would rather go overkill and keep the water clean than have to be on top of it everyday.
Sorry for the long post, and I appreciate any helpful info.
Re: Salt Water system wiht sand filter?
Go for it! My Mother-in-law has this same setup on her Intex pool and loves it. Once she gets everything clean and going at the beginning of the season, she rarely has to touch it throughout the season. You won't regret it!
I also have an in-ground w/salt generator and sand filter. After a green cleanup to get it started this season, I have crystal clear water and already up to 91°. Good ole southern weather!
Re: Salt Water system wiht sand filter?
"Krystal-Clear" is just the Intex brand for their over-hyped salt system. Dunno if it's a good one or bad one, but be careful about the bogus claims.
That said, if there's a warranty, having a salt system would probably make it easier on your wife. I suspect it's probably a decent product for the money -- that's certainly been true of most Intex products -- but on the low capacity low end of things.
They've got great value in most of their products; I don't know why they feel the need to hype them.

Re: Salt Water system with sand filter?
I use a SWCG and a sand filter on my above ground pool, but none of the brand names you mention. Mine works great and I love them both, but it does carry a token amount of maintenance. Nothing is maintenance free. A Salt Water Chlorine Generator does eliminate or at least drastically reduce the need for traditional chlorine, but you will normally see an increase the Muriatic Acid consumption.
