Inground Pool Overflow Plumbing Problem.

I discovered the pool contractor overlooked the overflow that was suppose to be installed in my in-ground pool. The pool has three returns. One return is to the Care Taker nozzles that are situationed on the floor of the pool. The second return is to two bubble jets (water mixed with air) and the third return is to a 3/4" nozzle on one wall of the pool.

To fix his mistake, the contractor capped the Jandi valve return port to the nozzle on the wall of the pool and retubed the nozzle tubing to a stand pipe that is cut off to allow water to flow from the nozzle to the stand pipe when the pool is more then 1" overfull.

The overflow system works fine but I miss having water flowing from the nozzle. I am trying to figure out how to have the nozzle work as a nozzle should and with the turn of a 3 way valve, stop the water flow to the nozzle and at the same time connect the nozzle to the overflo stand pipe. I really only need the overflow when we are on vactaion so only having one or the other at any given time is not a serious problem.

I figured an addtional Jandi 3 way valve would allow me to reconfigure the system so that I could have water flowing to the nozzle in one postion and in the other postion stop the water flow to the nozzle and at the same time connect the nozzle to the overflow pipe.

As far as I can establish, a Jandi 3 way valve will direct water to either of two ports that are 180 degrees apart but it will not stop the flow from the pump and connect the nozzle to the overflow stand pipe at the same time.

I know I could make it work by using simple quarter turn on/off valves is three different places but I was hoping to accomplish the change-over from water flowing to the nozzle to overflow water flowing from the nozzle to the overflow stand pipe by using one three way valve.

I have checked the Jandy web site and cannot find a valve that is designed to do what I need done.

Update to my plumbing problem.

After drawing out various plumbing configurations using a 3 way valve, I found that if I can:
(1) Connect the input port on the 3way valve to the overflow pipe,
(2) Connect the output port to the output of the pump
(3) Connect the pipe leading to the nozzle (jet) in the pool to the other outlet,
In one postion, water will flow to the nozzle (Jet) in the pool. In the other postion, water will flow from the jet in the pool to the overflow pipe.

This gives me the best of two worlds because the only time I am concerned about the pool overflowing is when we are on a trip or away from home.

My question concerns how I should pipe the 3 way valve. Considering the fact the pump output will connect to the output port on the 3 way valve, Will the valve stop the flow of water when I set the valve so that pool water will flow from the pool to the overflow stand pipe, the water from the pump is blocked at the output port of the 3 way valve with approximately 25 PSI. I am not certain the valve is designed to stop the flow of water entering an output port.

I noticed that the returns from the skimmer and pool drain enter a 3 way valve and flow toward the suction side of the pump which is attached to the imput side of the valve.

Bottom line question......Can I expect a 3 way valve to stop the flow of water from a pump when the pump is attached the output side of a 3 way valve? Bill

There were no responses to my question so I decided to reconfigure the pool plumbing so that I could direct return water to the nozzle in the pool through a Jandy 3 way valve in one postion. When I switch the Jandy valve 90 degrees to the second position it stops the flow of water to the nozzle and connects the nozzle in the pool to the an overflow stand pipe.. The system works perfectly. Water is now retruned to the pool through a 1/2" nozzle and when we are away, I can use the nozzle as an overflow by turning the Jandy valve 90 degrees. Bill
