Mason's sand is perfect. You can get it from any sand and gravel dealer/quarry. Color, of course, doesn't matter, but it comes in black, red, yellow and white. It's smooth, clean and even, and doesn't cost too much. You buy it by the yard, which, by definition, is a cube 1 yard on each side. But measures are never that exact. Still, one cubic yard will cover 9 square yards (9'x9') to a depth of 4".
Thanks Carl.Would you happen to know the approximate amount of sand needed for a 30' AGP?And once this sand is leveled out, I'm assuming that the pressure exerted by the water is all that is needed to compact the sand,as opposed to doing any compacting before the pool is filled?
Thanks
John
Where I live its $27 a yard with a $40 delivery fee
It depends on how deep the sand is. At a 4" depth, I'd get at least 10 yards. For 6", I'd get, naturally, half again as much.
But I make NO guarantees. I'm estimating based on 4", on a 15' radius pool (30'), and that the sand yardage is exact.
The instructions that came with my 21' AG pool said to compact the sand.
you have to compact the sand otherwise you will have footprints, lumps etc. all over the place. it also helps if the sand is a bit damp prior to putting the liner in, it will help the sand not to move around as much.
You should also shoot the site with a transit level to ensure that the pool area is level.
