pump housings

I have a question about pump housings
-are the impeller and housings interchangeable between brands.
I have a new motor-bad housing on it, another one has bad motor but new housing.

As far as I know, the housings are specific to the model (i.e. not only won't a Jandy housing match with a Hayward, but even 2 different models within a manufacturer's line won't mate up :( )

If you'll tell us the 2 different pump specs, we may be able to help you decide how to proceed. :)
