Thru-Wall Skimmer on Softside AGP??

I have a Intex 24'. I sorta hate my skimmer. The kids knock it off all the time, and the vac attachment is absolutely rediculous. It has a sock about the size of a soda can. I am under two trees and OMG how many times I have to empty it to vac it one time!

I see that the thru-wall types work a little different. They vac into the basket. This seems like it would be SO much better for me than that stupid little sock, as my pool basically only collects large debris.

My question is: Can I install a thru-wall skimmer on a softside pool? It sorta seems like it should work... Any ideas?
