I have new filter sand that I am not using for my filter. Is this type of sand safe to use for a child's sand box? I've already opened the bag and I hate to waste it.

Should be fine, except that it hasn't always been 'washed' first.
That means it can contain dust and fine particles that will wash out on first backwash. You can accomplish the same thing by 'watering' it with a hose, before you let your kids in the sand box.

Thanks Pool Doc. By the way, I hooked up a regular (non-Intex) filter to my pool and the green cleared up in a matter of hours. I had put a metal remover in several weeks earlier and was constantly cleaning brown filters all day long. The sand filter cleared out the brown stuff that the Intex filter would have taken me months to clear. Thanks for all your help!
I LOVE happey endings!:)
Me too!!! Thanks everyone
