Welcome Miss Alabama,
I copied and pasted your post out of the Forum Q & A section into this spring start up section. Welcome!

Hi all! I'm a newbie, both to the forum and as a pool owner. This is my second summer to own and operate a pool. Last year we hired someone as I learned the ropes and then I managed on my own for the remainder of the year! I live on the Gulf Coast, so we use the pool regularly from April - October.

Unfortunately, we had a baby this fall and I didn't do much of anything to the pool over the winter, so it's pretty mucky (and frog-infested) now -- BIG MISTAKE that I don't plan on repeating this winter! We live next to a stream and swampy area, so we get all kinds of critters in it though. My "favorite" finds last year included a rat and a squirrel!

I'm rolling up my sleeves and tackling it head on (during baby's naptime) and look forward to getting to know all of you and absorbing some of your knowledge!

I'm one of the dreaded "restricted" users, so I can't edit my siggie yet, but I have a 30,000 gal rectangle vinyl IG and a Hayward sand filter.

We need some numbers to be able to help. Can you give us current water testing results taken with a drops-based kit -- not test strips. Then, somebody here can help you get this figured out!

I'm actually doing okay and making really great progress on my pool -- we just started on it yesterday, but so far everything is fine. I had just posted this as an intro and to say hi to everyone. :)

I've been vacuuming up all of the sludge and muck to waste and I think my impeller is clogged. Dangit.

I don't have the arm power to get the top off to clean it out, so I'm now waiting for my better half to get home so he can assist with that. :)
