My motor bearings failed and I bought a new motor. Installed wiring and was in process of replacing the seal on the wet end of the pump. When screwing the impeller on to the motor shaft, I hand tightened the impeller. However, it was not screwed down far enough to get the cover to fit properly over the impeller. tightened it down a little more, then turned the power on to see if it would tight on its on. It did, too tight.

The new motor will not turn at all. The impeller will not unloosen. I even used a strap wrench to loosen it but it seems to just turn very hard on the pump shaft. It will not un-loosen

How can I get this thing off? Has anyone had this problem other than me?

Anyone's help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Try taking a look at this thread

If locking the back of the shaft, (at the electrical end) doesn't work, let me know and we'll figure this out!

I have blocked the movement of the motor shaft. It is not turning. The impeller is turning on the motor shaft, but it is not coming loose. It is just turning on the shaft. Not freely turning but hard to turn..

I think the proble is the threaded insert in the impeller is turning inside the impeller rather than loosening from the shaft.

It appears to me the impeller will have to be cut off or broken with a hammer or something to get to the threaded insert.

Sounds like you've figured it out. Brute force is about the only answer :(
