We have an in-ground gunite pool with rock features around one side and an in-water sun deck with steps. When we first had the pool built, we had a Polaris 280. It worked pretty well, but it could not get to the sun deck and often got suck in the rocks just below the water line. We purchase a Hayward Phantom and, after figuring out the best cam to use and which side of the cam should be up, it has worked great. We have found that we've had to replace numerous parts: wheels, hose sections, inlet attachment, etc.

After 3 good seasons, we now need to replace the cleaner. Which would you recommend: Polaris 3900 or Hayward Phantom? I haven't seen any reviews for the new Polaris. Thanks

I don't know anything about the Hayward, but my vote is for Polaris. I haven't seen any reviews for the new polaris yet either but I have the 380model and love it....the first one I had for 7 years and in that time replaced the belts, wheels and backup valve one time (my Polaris lives and works in my pool yearround). So when I decided to get a new cleaner, the 380 is what I went with again.

By the way, welcome to the forum, glad to see you!!
