Polaris PB4 booster pump is leaking @ the shaft-- time for a new set of seals. But---Impeller rusted onto the motor shaft.

Anyone have a trick to getting it unfrozen and removed ?

I've let it soak with penetrating oil for a couple of days--I guess not much of that gets into the threads though, as its supposed to be sealed.

Last resort is to bust off the impeller and hope I can get a wrench onto the nut, eh ?

I recently used a rubber strap wrench and was able to turn,...just barely. Parts are stainless so corrosion should not be an issue, but the impeller does seem to tighten w/ time.

There is a special tool that fits into the impeller to allow better grip/torque to be applied. Pool stores may have them. I took my pump to pool store and they removed impeller for me.

If seal has leaked for any length of time the bearing at front of electrical motor may be damaged. It can be replaced w/ some difficulty. See my post on general procedure.

good luck
